Better Together
Pass the Hat Promotions is not for profit organization and artists' cooperative developed by Catherine Zudak, a writer, actor and producer in the Detroit area. PTHP mission is to promote socially relevant theatre.
In pursuit of this mission, PTHP supports new and emerging writers through several projects, including Page to Stage, Writers Cafe, and Yoga for Writers in our basement studio space.
PTHP also collaborates with other arts organizations through Open House and Project Development Assistance. Finally, PTHP actively seeks to produce and distribute socially relevant theatre through We the People and All for One projects.
PTHP believes that promoting socially relevent theatre begins with identifying relevant efforts by existing artists and arts organizations. Then, building mutual awareness and colloration among these potential partners. And finally, finding sustainable resources to support our combined efforts.
Ms. Zudak conceived PTHP in July 2014. Inspired by an art installation, BROKEN, on human trafficking by Susan Clinthorne and Sally Thielen, PTHP produced a benefit performance with all proceeds going to the Michigan Human Trafficking Coalition.  Many artists generously donated their time and two arts organizations donated in-kind services.
The following year, Ms. Zudak participated in the Social Justice Art Festival at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. She produced readings of two short plays by local writers focused on Childhood Abuse and Gun Violence Awareness.
At that point, Ms. Zudak invited a group of artists, arts administrators and community members, who had participated in these early efforts, to help turn this vision into a effective organization.  PTHP was officially launched in September 2016.
PTHP welcomes new members.  Please click on the Contact page to join our efforts and access our programs.
